Propagation of herbs is a core activity for Messinian Hub. Seedlings and cuttings are produced in our greenhouse facilities, and then hardened for better planting in the field. Reproduction conditions are fully controlled by an automatic irrigation system (mist) and three (3) rooting benches. The greenhouse has a total area of 300 m², with a production capacity of 77,000 plants per full breeding cycle. The company specializes in the propagation of oregano, mountain tea, thyme sage and savory.
A characteristic feature of the company, as the toponym in the logo implies, is the extensive activity in the wider area of Mount Taygetus which disgorges directly onto the plain of Messinia and into the outskirts of Kalamata. Having leased 60 stremmas, herbs are cultivated in the Kakosi area of Oichalia Municipality, Messinia. High quality and organoleptic characteristics are achieved by following the basic principles of Organic Farming at an altitude of 900 meters. In addition to the leased plots of the company, a group of farmers has been set up and managing a total of 50 stremmas and gradually installing herbs multiplicative material supplied from the company. The relationship between the company and the Group of Farmers is ensured by the signing of a contract of Contract Farming.
Once the raw herbal product is harvested, natural drying is carried out under shade in specially designed areas. At the end of about 2 weeks of drying, the product follows the process of treatment in order to reach the desired form of the final product.
The dried raw herbs is processed, standardized and stored through the vertically integrated production line of the company in a building of 400 m2 in Kalamata, Messinia. Following strict standardization procedures according to the International Standard ISO 22000:2005 and the inspection of BioHellas, a final standardized product is produced, and is ready for promotion and sale in wholesale distribution networks (B2B). Except from company's label, personnel can also take over the standardization on a private label according to customer's preferences on the herbal material and packaging.
